J's Record Review

MORE LIGHT (Ultimatum Music), the new disc from J Mascis (and The Fog) features production help from My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields, whose influence creates visceral storms of guitar distortion, J Mascis howls through blizzards of sound and sonic deviation. J's trademark vocal whine is evident throughout, as is his guitar's distorted tone, on tunes like, "Same Day," "Where'd You Go," and "Back Before You Go". Mr. Mascis delves into moodier psychedelic territory on Dino-Jr-ish tracks like "Waistin" and "Ground Me to You", with small doses of keyboards and large doses of grunge, rolling riffs, and amp-stretching contortions. A worthy record for any Mascis/Dino Jr fan. true!
